Sunday 16th
Nov Match Report
Timperley U19's opened their account on Sunday with an exhilarating 8-9
victory over fierce rivals, Stockport on Sunday.
Having lost to Stockport in last seasons U19 Cup Quarter Final and also
by a golden goal in the Ted Donnet final last month, Timperley were determined
to bury the ghost of Stockport once and for all.
Timperley started brightly, and opened with a goal from White - assisted
from Brook. Stockport replied, and another strike from White still wasn't
enough to prevent Stockport from leading 3-2 at the end of the first quarter.
Timperley rallied, and a stronger more disciplined defence kept Stockport
at bay in the second quarter as the midfield and attack men took control.
White, Gill and Anderson assisted from Armstrong all netted to lift the
spirits and renew belief that Stockport were beatable, and Timperley finished
the half 3-5 ahead.
Going into the third quarter, Timperley continued to dominate. Armstrong
won 5 out 5 face off supported by Smith, Poole and Brook on the wings, and a
really strong team performance along with goals from Gill and Sandy negated
counter strikes from Stockport. The game was building into an exciting climax
with both benches becoming somewhat animated under the tension.
The third quarter ended with Timperley still ahead by 5 goals to 7.
The final quarter saw Timperley edge further ahead as goals from Hunt
-Armstrong assist, and then by Brook, put Timperley into a seemingly commanding
position.
Stockport, however, weren't finished and scored the next three goals
without reply to set up a grandstand finish.
Ill discipline and poor bench management cost Stockport as they had three
players collectively ‘benched' with only a few minutes left in the game.
Timperley held the ball well and ran the clock down to see the match out.
The final whistle was eventually blown, much to the relief of the players and
supporters who overall deserved the victory and savoured the moment.
Goals (Assists): White 3
(Brook); Gill 2; Anderson (Armstrong); Sandy ; Hunt (Armstrong); Brook
Face offs: Armstrong won

Timperley A 12 Poynton 6
Hard on the heels of last week's poor result,
this week the U12 had another tough game against a Poynton side that
had beaten us earlier this season. However, what a difference a week
makes.
After going behind briefly in the first quarter,
the team ended the quarter 3-2 up, and from then on never looked
back. A five goal blast in the second quarter gave us an 8-3 lead at
half time. Quarters three and four were fairly even, but we'd done
the hard work by then and ran out worthy winners by 12-6.
The whole team seemed more focussed and ready to
work for each other and, on the whole, the boys stuck to the plan to
keep the best players on the Poynton side quiet. The set up of the
team was more settled, having a 13 man squad for the first time this
season allowing us to run two separate teams of midfielders.
Every part of the team did its bit today. The
goalkeeper and his defence played with a lot of discipline; the
midfield ran hard, with the introduction of a B team player adding to
the running power, while the attack all got on the score sheet and
are starting to move themselves and the ball better.
Today's MVP was defenceman Freddie Atkins, whose
intercepting, checking and numerous breaks from defence were
outstanding.
We need to ensure that we stick to our passing
game right to the final whistle. In a close game it doesn't really
matter who scores - we play as a team and win games as a team.
We have more tough games like this over the next
few weeks and these will start to define where our season could be
heading. Today was a very good win indeed and we need to keep the
momentum going.

Timperley A 0 Rochdale 11
This week saw a disappointing result for the A
team, as we were turned over by a physically dominant Rochdale team.
The boys had no real answer to a couple of the large Rochdale players
who were able to run from one end of the large pitch to the other,
leaving 2 or 3 Timperley players trailing in their wake, to keep
almost constant pressure on our goal.
Having lost the first half 0-8, it was a real
credit to the boys that they kept going to only concede 3 more, with
Coach Ascott, quite rightly, refusing to take advantage of the free
clear that was available to us.
Generally, over the course of the game, we
surrendered possession too easily due to poor passing choices, and
poor catching. We cannot allow ourselves to be intimidated into
making poor choices with our game, as possession is key to winning
lacrosse matches.
Over the season to date, Timperley have played
some great lacrosse. We will have to be right on top of our game to
beat the intimidating game that Rochdale played, but we are more than
capable of doing this and we now know what we are up against.
Timperley B 14 Ashton 7
The B team had previously lost to Ashton 0-9, so
it was a good chance to see how much our B team had improved over the
last 6 weeks.
Timperley lost the first quarter 2-4, but with
great team spirit had pulled it round to 7-6 at half time. From this
point the team was never behind as they led 8-7 at three quarter time
before an avalanche of goals in the last quarter resulted in the
final score of 14-7.
The goals were shared by five different members of
the team, with the rest of the team contributing a lot, and our two
regular goalies sharing the pain.
Coach Cragg nominated the whole team as
MVPs.
